Diwali 2026 Phone Upgrade Guide: How Exchange, Bundles and EMI Really Work (Srinagar Buyers)

Planning a Diwali upgrade?
Last updated: 5 Nov 2026, IST
Quick answer: Diwali is on Sunday, 8 November 2026 (Dhanteras is Friday, 6 November). Most festive phone offers come in four forms: a bank-card discount, an exchange offer (your old phone's value plus, sometimes, an extra exchange bonus), EMI (often "no-cost"), and bundles. Brands usually let you pick one of the bank discount or the exchange bonus, not both. No-cost EMI isn't interest-free: the interest is given back to you as a discount, but you can still pay GST on that interest and a processing fee. In stores, some bank offers only work on "Brand EMI" through the shop's card machine, and only for EMIs of 6 months or longer. Always ask for the final amount you'll pay, in writing, before you swipe.
"Diwali pe kuch offer hai?" is the question we hear most at the counter this week. The honest answer is: yes, lots, but the headline number on a poster is rarely the price you pay. "Up to ₹10,000 off" might need a particular bank card. "Up to 10% exchange bonus" might need your old phone to be picked up by a specific partner. "No-cost EMI" might still add a few hundred rupees in GST and fees.
This guide explains how each type of festive offer actually works, using the official terms that brands and banks have published this season, so you can work out the real price before you buy, whether you shop online or at a store in Srinagar.

The four types of Diwali phone offers at a glance
| Offer type | What it means | The catch to check |
|---|---|---|
| Bank-card discount | Instant discount (or cashback later) when you pay with a specific bank's card | Which cards qualify, minimum spend, maximum discount, and whether it's only on EMI |
| Exchange value | What your old phone is worth as a trade-in | Final value depends on a physical check of model and condition |
| Exchange bonus | An extra amount the brand adds on top of your old phone's value | Often can't be combined with the bank offer; may need pickup by the brand's partner |
| EMI / no-cost EMI | Pay in monthly instalments; "no-cost" means the interest is refunded as a discount | GST on interest, processing fee, and losing a cash discount |
| Bundle | Phone sold with accessories, or extra items at a reduced price | What's in the box vs what's an add-on, and the warranty on extras |
How phone exchange works (and what "exchange bonus" means)
An exchange offer has two separate parts, and it helps to look at them one at a time.
1. Exchange value. This is what your old phone is worth. It depends on the model, storage and condition, and the final figure is set only after someone physically checks the phone. Samsung's exchange page, for example, says the value "varies basis model and condition of old device", and the phone must be working with its display intact. Normal wear and tear is fine.
2. Exchange bonus. This is an extra discount the brand adds on top of the exchange value, usually as "up to" a figure or a percentage. Vivo, for example, advertises an "up to 10% V-Upgrade Exchange Bonus" on the V80, and its terms say the bonus is valid only when the old phone is picked up by vivo's authorised exchange partners.
The rules that catch people out:
- Exchange bonus or bank offer, not both. Motorola's exchange bonus terms say plainly: the exchange bonus "can not be clubbed with other offers (Bank Offer)". Many brands work the same way, so work out both options and pick the bigger one.
- The quote can drop at pickup. Vivo's exchange FAQ (run with Cashify) says the representative re-quotes if the phone's condition doesn't match what you declared, and you can decline. Be honest when you fill in the condition.
- Locks and accounts. Exchange partners need screen locks removed and accounts (Google or iCloud) signed out so they can check the IMEI and that the phone isn't locked. Back up your photos and WhatsApp first.
- Follow the programme's own reset instructions. Vivo's exchange FAQ says the pickup executive must be able to run iCloud, screen-lock and IMEI checks, and won't pick up a phone if a factory reset stops them doing that. Read the steps for the programme you're using before you wipe anything.
- One old phone per order, and it must be the exact phone you described.
Prefer to sell your old phone instead? You don't have to trade in to upgrade. Digi Kashmir buys phones from walk-in sellers. Every purchase goes through an Aadhaar-based e-KYC and is recorded digitally, so the phone has an auditable history. Message us on WhatsApp to ask about selling yours.
What "no-cost EMI" really costs
"No-cost EMI" sounds like a free loan. It isn't. Here's how it works:
- The bank still charges interest on the EMI.
- The seller (or brand) gives you an upfront discount equal to that interest, so your instalments add up to the phone's price.
- The bank charges GST on the interest, and that GST is not covered by the discount.
Razorpay's documentation gives a worked example: a ₹15,000 product on a 3-month no-cost EMI at 15% a year. The EMI is ₹5,000 a month, the bank's interest comes to about ₹367, and the seller gives a ₹367 discount to cover it. You'd still pay GST on that ₹367 of interest, and some lenders also charge a processing fee.
The Reserve Bank of India put it more bluntly back in 2013: "the very concept of zero percent interest is non-existent". RBI told banks not to hide interest in processing fees or play with interest rates to advertise "0%" loans.
What to check before you choose EMI:
- Is there a cash discount you'd lose? If paying in full gets a bigger discount than the EMI option, the EMI isn't really "no-cost" for you.
- Processing fee and GST. Ask for both in rupees. Vivo's own store, for example, adds a ₹49 convenience fee (plus taxes) to the first instalment on Bajaj Finserv EMI purchases.
- Tenure rules. Many bank offers only apply to EMIs of 6 months or longer (see the next section).
- When the EMI starts. On card EMIs, the full amount is often charged first and converted to EMI a few days later. Vivo's EMI FAQ says this usually happens within 7 working days.
- Card EMI vs a consumer loan. Card EMI uses your credit card limit. "Zero down payment" schemes are usually a separate loan from a finance company, with its own documents and approval.
In-store bank offers: "Brand EMI" on the card machine
Some of the biggest bank discounts this season apply only in stores, and only on EMI. SBI Card's festive offer on select vivo smartphones is a good example of how these work (official terms, checked 5 Nov 2026):
- 10% instant discount, up to ₹23,000 per card, on select vivo smartphones.
- Valid 1 October to 30 November 2026.
- EMI only, 6 months or longer.
- Only at stores whose card machines are on SBI Card's list (Pine Labs, Benow, Razorpay POS, Innoviti or Paytm).
- The bank's usual interest and processing fee still apply on the EMI.
- It can't be combined with chain-store offers, and some SBI cards (corporate cards, for example) are excluded.
So if a poster says "10% off with SBI card", ask: Is it on full payment or only EMI? What's the minimum tenure? Does this store's card machine support the offer?
Festive phone offers we checked (5 Nov 2026)
These are official brand or bank offers from our brands. Offers change quickly and often differ between online and in-store (vivo, for example, lists "Mainline" offers for retail stores separately from its "Online" offers), so treat this as a starting point.
| Brand | Offer | Where it applies | Validity |
|---|---|---|---|
| Samsung | "Samsung Week": up to 34% off select Galaxy phones, instant bank discounts up to ₹10,000, multi-buy benefits up to ₹9,500, exchange including "any-condition exchange" on select devices | Samsung.com, Samsung Shop app and Samsung Exclusive Stores | Announced 7 Oct 2026; Samsung didn't give an end date, so check it's still live |
| Vivo | SBI credit card: 10% instant discount (max ₹23,000) on select vivo phones, EMI of 6+ months | Stores with eligible card machines | 1 Oct to 30 Nov 2026 |
| Oppo | "Red Rewards Rain": rewards include coupons such as ₹2,000 off F35 series, ₹2,800 off A6 series, ₹3,500 off F33 series | OPPO Store (app/web) only | 1 Nov to 22 Nov 2026 |
| Motorola | Exchange bonus on Motorola's store, one per user | motorola.in | Can't be combined with the bank offer |
| Infinix | GT 50 Pro: ₹5,000 instant bank discount on major bank credit cards; no-cost EMI up to 18 months (from ₹3,611 a month) | infinixmobiles.in | Bank offer terms run to 15 Nov 2026 (per Infinix) |
For the Infinix GT 50 Pro's full price and offer breakdown, including how ₹69,999 (which includes the GT kit) comes down with each bank offer, see our GT 50 Pro price in India hub.
Bundles: what you're really getting
A "bundle" can mean two very different things:
- In-box kit: the extras are part of the product itself. The Infinix GT 50 Pro, for example, is sold in India as one kit, with the GT NX Controller, GT NX Station and MagCharge Cooler 2.0 included in its ₹69,999 price.
- Add-on offer: extra items (earbuds, a case, a protection plan) offered at a reduced price when you buy them with the phone. These cost extra.
Before you agree to a bundle, ask: Which items are in the box, and which am I paying extra for? What's the warranty on each extra? Can I buy the phone without the add-ons? A screen-protection or extended-warranty plan can be worth it, but compare its price and what it actually covers first.
Diwali at Digi Kashmir
Here's how exchange, EMI and card payments work at our Srinagar store this Diwali, so you can apply the checks above to us too.
- Phone exchange. We take phones in exchange. The phone must be working, and you'll need a valid bill or the original box (either one, or both). We work out its value from the phone's condition and current market value, after checking it at the counter. For Diwali, we add an exchange bonus of up to 10% on top of that value.
- EMI through finance companies. We offer EMI through Bajaj Finance, Chola and TVS Credit. Many new phones have zero down payment options. Which phones qualify and the scheme terms are shared at the store, so ask for the full repayment amount, any processing fee and the tenure before you sign.
- Card payments and bank EMI. Our card machine is HDFC Pine Labs. Some brand bank-EMI offers run on Pine Labs machines (SBI Card's vivo offer above lists Pine Labs, for example), so they may work at our counter. Eligibility depends on the brand, the bank, the card and the phone, so confirm the offer at the counter before you pay.
- Free accessories with every phone. During Diwali, every phone we sell comes with a bundle of free accessories. Ask at the counter what's included with the phone you choose.
Thinking about a pre-used & refurbished phone this Diwali?
Festive offers apply to new phones, but a pre-used & refurbished phone can stretch your budget to a higher model. Ours are premium-quality, QC-passed devices: each one is tested, and anything that was off is fixed before sale, which often makes a refurbished phone a safer choice than an as-is second-hand phone from an unknown seller.
Every pre-used & refurbished phone from Digi Kashmir comes with:
- A 7-day replacement guarantee if a fault is found (it doesn't cover physical damage, liquid damage or unauthorised tampering).
- A check that there's no active finance (an unpaid EMI or loan from a previous owner) on the phone.
- A lifetime legal warranty: in the rare case that a phone we sold turns out to have been reported stolen and anyone contacts you about it, we'll replace it or refund you and handle the legal side ourselves.
You can check the phone at our counter before you pay. Our used phone checklist walks you through every check, and you can browse current stock on our used phones inventory.
10 questions to ask before you pay this Diwali
- What is the final amount I'll pay, after every discount? Can you write it down?
- Is this discount on full payment, EMI, or both?
- Which bank cards qualify, and is there a minimum spend or maximum discount?
- If it's EMI: what's the tenure, the processing fee, and the GST on interest?
- Is there a cash price that's lower than the EMI total?
- Can I combine the exchange bonus with the bank offer, or is it one or the other?
- Is the exchange value a final figure, or will it change after the phone is checked?
- What's in the box, and what is an add-on I'm paying for?
- Is the warranty from the brand, and does it start from my purchase date?
- If the EMI conversion fails, what happens to my payment?
Buying in Srinagar and across Kashmir
A few local tips for the festive week:
- Go early in the week. Dhanteras (Friday, 6 November) and Diwali (Sunday, 8 November) are the busiest days, and popular colours and storage versions can sell out.
- Carry the card you plan to pay with. In-store bank offers depend on the card and the card machine, so the right card matters more than the store.
- Bring your old phone charged, backed up and signed out if you're trading it in or selling it. For an exchange at Digi Kashmir, also bring its bill or box (either works).
- Compare like with like. An online price with a bank offer, a store price with a different card offer, and an EMI total are three different numbers. Use the questions above to compare them fairly.

FAQ
When is Diwali 2026? Diwali (Lakshmi Puja) is on Sunday, 8 November 2026, according to Drik Panchang. Dhanteras is on Friday, 6 November.
Is no-cost EMI really free? Not completely. The bank still charges interest, and the seller gives you an equal discount to cancel it out, but GST on that interest is usually charged to you, and a processing fee may apply. RBI has said that "zero percent interest" doesn't really exist.
Can I get the exchange bonus and the bank discount together? Usually not. Motorola's terms, for example, say the exchange bonus can't be combined with the bank offer. Check each brand's terms and work out which one saves you more.
Can I exchange a phone with a cracked screen? It depends on the programme. Samsung's standard exchange needs a working phone with an intact display. Samsung Week also mentions "any-condition exchange" on select devices. Check the specific offer before you count on it.
Do I need a credit card for EMI? Not always. Card EMI needs a credit card (and some debit cards support it), but "zero down payment" schemes are separate loans from finance companies, with their own approval and documents. Ask the store which options it supports. At Digi Kashmir, EMI is available through Bajaj Finance, Chola and TVS Credit, and many new phones have zero down payment options; we share the terms at the store.
Why is the in-store bank offer different from the online one? Brands and banks run separate online and in-store ("mainline") offers, often with different discounts, banks and dates. Some in-store bank offers only work through specific card machines under the "Brand EMI" option.
Should I factory reset my old phone before exchange? Follow the specific programme's instructions. Vivo's exchange FAQ, for example, says the pickup executive must be able to run lock and IMEI checks, and won't take a phone if a factory reset prevents that. Either way, back up your data first and remove your SIM and memory card.
Does Digi Kashmir take phones in exchange this Diwali? Yes. The phone must be working and come with a valid bill or its box (either or both). We value it on condition and current market value, and for Diwali we add an exchange bonus of up to 10%.
Will a brand's bank EMI offer work at Digi Kashmir? It may. Our card machine is HDFC Pine Labs, and some brand bank-EMI offers run on Pine Labs. Whether a specific offer applies depends on the brand, bank, card and phone, so confirm it at the counter before you pay.
Can I sell my old phone to Digi Kashmir instead of exchanging it? Yes, we buy phones from walk-in sellers, with an Aadhaar-based e-KYC and digital records for every purchase. Message us on WhatsApp to ask about yours.
Final Take
Diwali offers can save you real money, but only if you compare the final amount you'll pay, not the biggest number on the poster. Pick between the bank offer and the exchange bonus, ask what no-cost EMI adds in GST and fees, check what a bundle really includes, and get the final figure in writing before you pay.
