Looking for a QC-passed used iPhone?

Quick answer: Before you buy a used iPhone in 2026, check six things. (1) Model: iOS 27 runs on iPhone 11 and later (plus iPhone SE 2nd and 3rd gen), so anything older no longer gets Apple's latest iOS. (2) Battery: open Settings > Battery > Battery Health and look at Maximum Capacity (and cycle count on iPhone 15 and later). Apple designs iPhone 14 and earlier batteries to keep 80% capacity at 500 cycles, and iPhone 15 and later at 1,000. (3) Indian or imported: in Settings > General > About, tap Model Number. A part number ending in HN/A is an India unit. (4) SIM: US-bought iPhone 14, 15 and 16 models have no SIM tray (eSIM only). (5) Parts and Service History in Settings > General > About shows whether parts were replaced and whether they're genuine. (6) Activation Lock must be off, and Apple's Check Coverage page shows any warranty left, which Apple may limit to the country where the phone was first sold.

A used iPhone is one of the smartest buys in phones right now. iPhones hold their software support for years, the build quality lasts, and the used market in Kashmir is full of good iPhone 12s, 13s, 14s and 15s. But two iPhones of the same model and storage can be very different phones: one with a healthy battery and original parts, the other with a tired battery, a replaced screen and no SIM tray.

We sell pre-used & refurbished iPhones at our Lal Chowk store, and this guide is what we'd tell a friend before they buy one anywhere. It builds on our 10-step used phone checklist, which covers IMEI and Sanchar Saathi checks for every brand. Here we focus on what's specific to iPhones. Every Apple step links to Apple's own support page (checked 4 Nov 2026).

Step 1: Pick a model that still gets updates

Apple released iOS 27 on 14 September 2026. According to Apple's iOS 27 compatibility page, it runs on iPhone 11 and every newer iPhone, plus the iPhone SE (2nd generation and later). The iPhone X, XR, XS, XS Max, iPhone 8 and older can't install it.

Apple Intelligence features need more: per MacRumors, Siri AI and other Apple Intelligence features require an iPhone 15 Pro or newer, so the regular iPhone 15 and 15 Plus get iOS 27 but not Apple Intelligence.

Used model Gets iOS 27? Apple Intelligence? Battery design target (Apple) Charging port
iPhone 11 series Yes No 80% at 500 cycles Lightning
iPhone 12 series Yes No 80% at 500 cycles Lightning
iPhone 13 series Yes No 80% at 500 cycles Lightning
iPhone 14 series Yes No 80% at 500 cycles Lightning
iPhone 15 / 15 Plus Yes No 80% at 1,000 cycles USB-C
iPhone 15 Pro / Pro Max Yes Yes 80% at 1,000 cycles USB-C
iPhone 16 series and 16e Yes Yes 80% at 1,000 cycles USB-C
iPhone XR, XS and older No No 80% at 500 cycles Lightning

Sources: Apple iOS 27 compatibility and Apple's iPhone battery and performance page; Apple Intelligence per MacRumors. Checked 4 Nov 2026.

Our take: Apple doesn't publish a fixed number of update years, so nobody can promise when a model will drop off. What you can see is the pattern: iOS 27 supports the same models as iOS 26. If you want the longest runway, go as new as your budget allows. The iPhone 13 and 14 are the sweet spot for many buyers who don't need Apple Intelligence, and the 15 Pro is the oldest model with it.

Step 2: Read the battery properly

Battery is the single biggest difference between two used iPhones of the same model.

Where to look: Settings > Battery > Battery Health (on iPhone 15 and later) or Battery Health & Charging (on iPhone 14 and earlier), per Apple's battery health guide. On iPhone 15 and later, the cycle count is shown there too.

What the numbers mean: Apple's battery and performance page says iPhone 14 and earlier batteries are designed to keep 80% of their original capacity at 500 complete charge cycles, and iPhone 15 batteries at 1,000 cycles, under ideal conditions. So an iPhone 15 at 85% after 400 cycles is ageing normally, while an iPhone 13 at 85% has used up much of its design life.

Messages to watch for:

  • "Your battery is currently supporting normal peak performance" is what you want to see.
  • "Performance management has been applied" means the phone has already had an unexpected shutdown because the battery couldn't deliver peak power.
  • "Your battery's health is significantly degraded" means Apple recommends a replacement.
  • "Unable to verify this iPhone has a genuine Apple battery" means the battery isn't a verified Apple part, and the health figures on screen may not be accurate.

Why this matters more in a Kashmir winter: Apple explains that a battery's impedance rises in cold temperatures and at low charge, and that the effect is bigger on an older battery. That's when unexpected shutdowns are most likely. If you're buying in November for a Srinagar winter, a healthy battery matters more than a few hundred rupees.

A replaced battery isn't a bad thing. A used iPhone with a freshly replaced, genuine battery can be a better buy than one with its original but worn-out cell. That's exactly why a properly refurbished iPhone is often the safer choice: it has been tested, and anything that was off was fixed before sale. Just check that Parts and Service History (Step 4) shows the replacement as a Genuine Apple Part.

Step 3: Indian unit or imported? Read the model number

Open Settings > General > About and tap Model Number once. It switches from the hardware model (starting with "A", like A2633) to the part number (like MLPF3HN/A).

The two letters before "/A" show the market the iPhone was made for. Apple doesn't publish an official list of these codes, but widely used reference tables (for example Level Global Trade's region code table) agree on the common ones:

Ends in Made for
HN/A India
LL/A United States
AH/A UAE and Saudi Arabia
ZA/A Hong Kong
CH/A China mainland
J/A Japan

Third-party reference, not an Apple page. Checked 4 Nov 2026.

The first letter of the part number is also widely reported (for example by Techie Blaze) to show the unit type: M for a retail unit, F for an Apple-refurbished unit and N for an Apple replacement unit. Again, treat this as a reference, not an Apple guarantee.

An imported iPhone isn't a fake or a bad phone. It's the same iPhone made for another market. It just comes with three things you should know before you pay.

At Digi Kashmir, we stock Indian units (HN/A) only. We don't sell imported iPhones, so the trade-offs below won't apply to an iPhone you buy from us. They're still worth knowing if you're buying anywhere else.

1. The SIM tray (the big one)

Per Apple's SIM page, iPhone 14, 15 and 16 models bought in the United States are eSIM only: there's no physical SIM tray. iPhone 17 models (and the 17e and 18 Pro) bought in the US, Canada, Mexico, Japan, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman and a few other places are eSIM only too, and the iPhone Air and iPhone Duo are eSIM only everywhere. India units of these phones have a nano-SIM tray plus eSIM. iPhone 13 and earlier have a SIM tray wherever they were sold.

An eSIM-only iPhone works in India if your mobile operator gives you an eSIM, but you can't simply move your SIM card into it. If you swap SIMs often or share a phone, check for the tray before you buy. On China mainland units, Apple says certain models use two nano-SIMs instead.

2. Apple warranty and service

Apple's one-year limited warranty says: "Apple may restrict warranty service for iPhone … to the country where Apple or its Authorized Distributors originally sold the device." So any Apple warranty left on an imported iPhone may not be usable in India.

3. Network bands

Different market versions support slightly different 5G and LTE bands. Apple lists each model's bands on its supported networks page. For most buyers on Jio or Airtel this won't matter much, but it's worth a look on a less common model.

Step 4: Check Parts and Service History

On iOS 15.2 and later, go to Settings > General > About. If a part has been replaced, you may see a Parts and Service History section below the serial number. Per Apple's guide to buying a pre-owned iPhone:

  • Genuine Apple Part means the part was replaced using genuine Apple parts and processes.
  • Unknown means the installation is incomplete, or the part is non-genuine, was previously used in another iPhone, or isn't working as expected.

On iPhone 12 and later, you might also see Finish Repair next to a part. Per Apple's Repair Assistant page, that part hasn't been calibrated yet. On most models the phone still works, but Face ID or Touch ID won't work until the repair is finished. If you see it, ask the seller to finish the repair with Repair Assistant before you pay.

A replaced screen or battery isn't automatically a problem. What you want is honesty about it and a quality part, so ask what was replaced and check that what the phone shows matches what you're told.

Step 5: Activation Lock, Find My and the Apple Account

This is the one check you can never skip. Per Apple's Activation Lock page, an iPhone with Activation Lock on needs the previous owner's Apple Account password before anyone can erase, reactivate or use it.

  • If the phone shows "iPhone Locked to Owner", don't buy it.
  • If it shows the seller's Lock Screen or Home Screen, ask them to sign out of their Apple Account and erase the phone (Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Erase All Content and Settings) in front of you.
  • You should then see the Hello screen, and be able to set the phone up with your own Apple Account.

Then check Carrier Lock in Settings > General > About. "No SIM restrictions" means the iPhone isn't locked to a carrier.

Step 6: Check Apple warranty and AppleCare

Enter the serial number (Settings > General > About) on Apple's Check Coverage page. It shows whether the iPhone has any Apple warranty or AppleCare left. Most used iPhones in 2026 will be out of Apple's one-year warranty, which is fine. That's when the seller's own guarantee matters most.

Remember that Apple's warranty also excludes accidental and liquid damage, cosmetic damage and damage from service by anyone who isn't Apple or an Apple Authorised Service Provider, per the warranty document linked above.

Step 7: Test it in your hand

Apple's pre-owned guide lists the basics, and they take five minutes: check the screen and body for damage, press every button and the Ring/Silent switch (or Action button), take photos in bright and low light on every lens, record a voice memo to test the microphone, play a sound to test the speakers, connect to Wi-Fi, and drag the brightness slider. Also set up your own Face ID, and check the IMEI on Sanchar Saathi as our used phone checklist explains.

What affects a used iPhone's price in Srinagar

Used iPhone prices move with new launches and stock. What moves the price of a used iPhone is predictable:

  • Model and storage (and Pro vs non-Pro)
  • Battery health and cycle count
  • Original vs replaced parts, and whether replacements are genuine
  • Indian (HN/A) vs imported, and whether it has a SIM tray
  • Cosmetic condition (screen, frame, back glass)
  • Box, bill and any Apple warranty or AppleCare left
  • The seller's own guarantee

Buying a used iPhone from Digi Kashmir

Every iPhone in our used range is a pre-used & refurbished, premium-quality, QC-passed device, and every one is an Indian unit (HN/A). You can check the phone at our counter before you pay, including every step in this guide.

Our QC. Every iPhone we sell is fully QC-verified, and we make sure it has no functional defect. In the rare case that a unit does have a defect, we tell you about it before you buy, and we offer that phone at a lower price.

Where our refurbished iPhones come from. Our refurbished iPhones come from reputed refurbishing companies. We don't do repairs or replace parts locally, which keeps every refurbished iPhone to the same high standard.

Like other established dealers, we source pre-used and refurbished phones in bulk, and bulk stock doesn't arrive with a box and an individual bill for every unit. Where we bought a phone locally, its original bill is available. Instead of relying on paperwork, we verify each device itself: every phone we sell is IMEI-verified and checked for active finance (an outstanding EMI or loan from a previous owner) before it reaches our shelves. When we buy a phone from a walk-in seller, we complete an Aadhaar-based e-KYC, and every purchase and sale is recorded digitally, so each phone has a clear, auditable history.

Every pre-used and refurbished phone we sell comes with a 7-day replacement guarantee if a fault is found. It doesn't cover physical damage, liquid damage or unauthorised tampering. Each one also carries a lifetime legal warranty: in the rare event that any legal question about a phone's history before our sale ever comes up, we'll replace it or refund you and handle the matter ourselves. Our terms and conditions have the full details.

FAQ

How do I check if an iPhone is an Indian unit? Go to Settings > General > About and tap Model Number once to see the part number. If it ends in HN/A, the iPhone was made for India. Other endings, like LL/A (US) or AH/A (UAE and Saudi Arabia), mean it was made for another market. Apple doesn't publish this list itself; the codes come from widely used reference tables.

Does Digi Kashmir sell imported iPhones? No. We sell Indian units (HN/A) only, so any iPhone you buy from us was made for the Indian market.

Does Digi Kashmir repair or replace parts in its refurbished iPhones? No. Our refurbished iPhones come from reputed refurbishing companies, and we don't do repairs or part replacements locally. Every iPhone we sell is fully QC-verified with no functional defects; in the rare case a unit has a defect, we tell you beforehand and offer it at a lower price.

Is an imported iPhone OK to buy in India? Yes, if you know the trade-offs. It's the same iPhone, but any Apple warranty left may be limited to the country where it was first sold, and US-bought iPhone 14, 15 and 16 models (and iPhone 17 models from several markets) have no SIM tray, so you'll need an eSIM from your operator.

What battery health is good for a used iPhone? There's no single cut-off, so read the percentage together with the model and cycle count. Apple designs iPhone 14 and earlier batteries to keep 80% capacity at 500 cycles, and iPhone 15 and later at 1,000 cycles. Also check that Peak Performance Capability says the battery supports normal peak performance, and that there's no "significantly degraded" or "unable to verify" message.

Where do I see the cycle count on an iPhone? On iPhone 15 and later, it's shown in Settings > Battery > Battery Health. Older iPhones don't show the cycle count in Settings.

Is a used iPhone with a replaced battery or screen worth buying? It can be a very good buy if the part is genuine and the work was done properly. Check Settings > General > About > Parts and Service History: "Genuine Apple Part" is what you want. "Unknown" means the part may be non-genuine, used or not working as expected.

Which used iPhones still get iOS updates in 2026? iOS 27 (released 14 September 2026) runs on iPhone 11 and later, plus iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation). iPhone XR, XS and older don't get iOS 27.

Does a used iPhone still have Apple warranty? Only if it's within one year of the original purchase or has AppleCare. Enter the serial number on checkcoverage.apple.com to see. Apple may restrict warranty service to the country where the iPhone was first sold.

What happens if I buy an iPhone with Activation Lock on? You won't be able to set it up or use it without the previous owner's Apple Account password. If you see "iPhone Locked to Owner", don't buy it.

How much does a used iPhone cost in Srinagar? It depends on the model, storage, condition and battery health, and prices change with new launches and stock. For current prices on the iPhones we have, see our used phones live inventory or ask in store or on WhatsApp.

Where can I buy a QC-passed used iPhone in Srinagar? Digi Kashmir sells pre-used & refurbished, premium-quality, fully QC-verified iPhones (Indian HN/A units only) at its Lal Chowk store in Srinagar. You can run every check in this guide at the counter, and each phone comes with a 7-day replacement guarantee if a fault is found (not covering physical or liquid damage, or unauthorised tampering) and a lifetime legal warranty. Browse our used phones live inventory or message us on WhatsApp.

Final Take

The best used iPhone isn't simply the lowest-priced one with the right name. It's the one that still gets iOS updates, has a battery with life left in it, shows honest parts history, isn't locked to anyone, and comes from a seller who stands behind it. Check the model number for HN/A and the SIM tray, read Battery Health properly, and walk away from anyone who won't let you look.
